If you are thinking about buying a mid-size sedan in India and the Skoda Slavia is on your list, this ownership review will give you a clear picture. We have been using the Skoda Slavia 1.5L Turbo Petrol DSG for around 4.5 months, covering close to 9,000 km. This is not an electric car (EV) but a petrol-powered sedan with turbocharged performance. The ex-showroom price in India for the 1.5L DSG variant is around ₹17.79 lakh, while the on-road price in most cities goes between ₹20–21 lakh depending on registration and insurance.
The exterior of the Slavia stands out with its premium and timeless design. Our car is in bright red, and the paint quality has been impressive. Even after months of use, the paint has not faded, and minor scratches are barely visible, which is rare for red-colored cars. Skoda’s paint quality is definitely a plus point here. However, the boot lid has a minor issue. It tends to drop down quickly after opening, and this could be risky when loading luggage. This happens because it uses a single-point spring connection instead of multiple points like older Skoda and Volkswagen models.
Under the hood, the 1.5L turbo petrol engine with DSG gearbox is the real highlight. It offers smooth yet powerful performance. On highways, thanks to the cylinder deactivation technology, it delivers an impressive mileage of about 16–18 km/l. In city traffic, depending on driving style and congestion, the mileage ranges between 7–11 km/l. The start-stop system helps save fuel but sometimes activates too soon in bumper-to-bumper traffic, which can be slightly annoying. The engine note is louder compared to Japanese and Korean sedans, which some may find sporty, but those preferring a very quiet cabin might see it as a drawback.

In terms of ride and handling, the Slavia is excellent. It feels confident at high speeds, takes corners with ease, and performs well even on hilly terrains. The ground clearance is better than expected for a sedan, and owners have reported trouble-free trips to challenging places like Ladakh without any underbody scrapes. Interior space is generous, with comfortable and supportive seats both in the front and rear. The dark interior theme is balanced by large glass areas, preventing a cramped feeling. Feature-wise, the car comes with a piano black finish on the dashboard that resists scratches and fingerprints better than most cars. The wireless charging pad feels slow and sometimes disconnects. The rear camera’s resolution is average, especially at night, and while the speaker system is fine for daily use, it’s not an audiophile’s delight.
